1. This is the most terrible thing ever. I had a burger and two tomato soups for lunch and now, I'm hungry? Stomach, you fail me.

Whatever. I'm eating gelato now, so maybe that makes up for something. Or quite a lot, really, but if I continue being unimpressed hopefully the universe will find added ways to make it up to me.

I guess it's pretty clear by now that ninety percent of the fannish content on this journal is devoted to Ryan Ross. We've had our ups and downs, to be sure, but today I feel justified, okay? Haters to the left!

There are mangoes in my kitchen (not colouredmango, I mean, they're coloured, what, they are just not colouredmango) and from where I am (right outside the kitchen) I can smell them ripening. It's a soft sweet smell.

On the countertop next to them there are also bananas. These are bananas but they're also special because they're red bananas.

We had Korean food for dinner last night and now the microwave is telling me that my leftover rice is ready. Guess what I'm having for breakfast!

Okay, I'm done. :D

Recently I have been passing the time by emailing people about arranged marriage AUs and then telling them the story and pretending it's not fic (well, it still isn't actually).

But my point is that it SHOULD BE. It's like, ARRANGED MARRIAGE AUS. There is a war! And Ryan and Brendon have to get married for fear of conscription, and Ryan is angry and resentful about having been pulled out of college and being forced to marry some kid he's only ever seen at stupid parties, and really Brendon has always been in stupid unrequited love with the Ryan he's never really known.

I appreciate all arranged marriage AUs, I really really do, but what I would like to know is why doesn't anyone ever write about how hard it is? I mean, having to give up Your Entire Life to marry someone you don't know, and so on.

I feel that for the social good everyone should think long and hard about this question.

In other news (and I am saying this purely for the sake of the AWFUL JOKE I am now about to deliver), today I felt happy. And then I felt sad. I suppose this means I'm sappy. *groan*

So, there's been that "write a (love?) poem in fifteen words" meme going around, and here is mine.

Yesterday I was supposed to be doing work, but I wound up writing more of the Proof AU, and I hit 10k. It is... taking a different direction from what I'd originally intended it to, but it's all good!

Also, popoffacork has gone live! Stories ftw. \o/ I have to admit, though, story swaps/big bangs always make me feel slightly anxious whenever they come out and I do not have all the time in the world to read them -- because then I pick one and read it and no more, but picking one is the worst; it causes me so much anxiety. "Is there another more delightful story I could be reading??" So on and so forth, until I actually start. Until then you could imagine me sitting at my laptop twitching before clicking. MY NEUROSES, UH.

You know what bandom needs more of? SILLY PLOTTY FIC. Like an Agatha Christie AU (... which, imagining Brendon as Miss Marple makes me burble with laughter a little) where they solve CRIME and there are SUSPICIOUS GIRLS who are really secret agents (Special Agent Asher -- c'mon, you'd read it) and villains who are so much more menacing for the mundane personas they assume. And I realise that this isn't really silly plotty fic any more, but sort of slick noir, but I am pretty sure that a balance could be found. Somehow.

Or! or! What if it they were detectives who solved small crimes (think, um, think Mma Ramotswe from the #1 Ladies' Detective Agency) and suddenly one day someone just turned up at their tiny office and asked them to investigate a case that soon spun out into a HUGE FUCKING THING that involved maybe the government and lots of jewels? And Brendon & Spencer would be so in over their heads (the Principles of Detection never prepared them for this! It's exactly like living in a cliche!) and also terrified and there would be a lot of traveling around and staying in hotel rooms and midnight terrified cuddling. \o/

... come to think of it, their dynamic reads more as a Tommy & Tuppence Beresford one, only a lot more failsome. However, the general principle of the thing remains: GAY MARRIED DETECTIVES FOREVER. Although I would also read Spencer Smith: Really Sherlock Holmes.

I was doing Very Important Research today (this is false, usually when I'm writing fic if I don't know the answers to my questions I just make them up and then forget to actually verify them later), and ended up here.

Personal note: When I was a little kid my mother told me not to stare into the sun. So once when I was six, I did. At first the brightness was overwhelming, but I had seen that before. I kept looking, forcing myself not to blink, and then the brightness began to dissolve. My pupils shrunk to pinholes and everything came into focus and for a moment I understood.

... this was both crazy and lovely. I'm oddly touched, you guys.

Why won't someone make Regina Spektor cover She's A Handsome Woman? I have spent SO MUCH time thinking about this imaginary cover over the past few days, I want it so badly. It would be slower than the original version and be just piano piano piano and Regina's voice and have a sweet shuffly background chorus and asdfghjkl, you guys. I have spent the past day or so capslocking this manifest NEED at various people by emailing them the lyrics in annoyingly big fonts all over the place, scribbling them all over my math notes, visualising the (also hypothetical) music video for it and spending more time than I will admit to thinking over what the lyrics all mean.

Oh, Ryan Ross, you make me love your pretentious and nonsensical lyrics so. Unironically, even.

Also: harborshore on Thursday! I've been so happy&excited this past week, eek! SHE IS COMING TO ME YOU GUYS. I'm looking forward to it so.
